Shale Hill Adventure is hosting an Obstacle Race Training Camp from 9am to 2pm both Saturday and Sunday on the dates listed above. Whether you’re a beginner with no obstacle experience, an intermediate with some race experience, or an expert……THIS CAMP IS FOR YOU!!
Over the course of the weekend, you will have an opportunity to train with multiple experienced Obstacle Course racers who have been in the trenches and will be able to advise you on proper technique for a successful racing experience! Your trainers are Rob Butler – owner/designer of Shale Hill, Randy Feeley, Heather Powell, Jason Moss, James Matta – owner of Fair Haven Fitness, and many other guest trainers we’ll bring in throughout the year.
All participants are required to bring their own food and any special hydration (we will supply water). You will start out with a trip around the 10K long obstacle course. During this time we will get to know you, evaluate your ability level and come up with a training plan for you!

Any participants under 18 are required to have a waiver signed by parent or legal guardian (camp is for 14 y.o. and up). Plan on being outside for the entire weekend!! We will have a lunch break around noon and will wrap each day up around 2pm. We may go a little longer than 2pm, so be prepared!! This is going to be a hands on course, you will get muddy, tired, scraped, cut , bruised, wet feet, etc, etc, etc….but, YOU ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE A GOOD TIME!!!!
Cost for the camp is $175 for the weekend / $100 for one day.

Our outdoor obstacle training course is 5 miles over rolling terrain. Along the way you will be challenged with 45+ military style obstacles that will test your strength, endurance, balance and courage. We want to challenge you to step out of the traditional gym scenario and experience fitness through the great outdoors.
Start out on our 1/2 mile grass track and along the way you will hurdle numerous 2 ‘ logs to get you warmed up, 5′ round hay bales, 4′ – 10′ Berlin walls, slippery shale inclines, a 1/2 mile 60 lb. sandbag carry through trails, over walls, hills and mud.
But that’s not all! This is just the beginning and you haven’t quite made it around a third of the course yet. Next is a 75′ swim across the pond, 4′ deep ditches full of mud and water under barbed wire, and run 1/4 mile to a 13′ rope climb-platform-run down a 45 degree ramp. Some hiccups along the way include stooping through a culvert pipe with tires and exiting under a 30′ cargo net that is sure to make you feel like a fly stuck in a spider web and some serious fallen trees! Onward, gravity pulls you down the first of three very steep hillsides and in the midst, THE JUNGLE: a 16′ Abacus climb, 50′ log balance beams across a deep ravine, 10′ Berlin wall, the swinging Linkin-Log climbs, rope ladders and the massive traverse GREAT WALL OF SHALE HILL! Exit the jungle through a narrow uneven trail to knee deep mud-uphill-under barb wire…OK, now you’re really dirty.
Don’t let the 2″ wide balance beams deceive you next…you must be patient, nimble and quick before heading on to more round bales and 3-4′ hurdles. About 2.5 miles in your at the fireman pole 12′ climb-cargo net-45 degree ramp; then onto the tire bridge and nearly 100′ of barbed wire crawling (yes, again). Up next, pick up a log (no, pick up a heavier log) and take a jog for a 1/4 mile loop around the hay meadow. You’ll get to stretch your legs for a bit now, but you’ll want to be wetting-your-whistle by now as you head onto the Hay-Bales-From-Hell…over 50 5′ diameter round bales oh-so-nicely stacked for 1/8 of a mile. And did I mention this is all uphill?
Pant, pant…nope, not done yet. Trudge on to a 10′ Berlin wall rope climb and then pick up a bucket of rocks for a 1/4 mile run. Soldier on now and, guess what?? Another round bale before you tackle 140′ of monkey bars, and the second half is up hill at 45 degrees! Feel the burn as you head up the hill that a dear friend coined as “One b–ch of a hill!” Whew, that was steep and long…and now onto the Tarzan swings. Get your monkey on as you grab onto a series of ropes and get from one end to the other, trying “not” to touch the ground…that will be 60′ please Oh joy, around the corner you see the finish but the Pick-Your-Poison training wall is next with a 16′ rope climb, 8′ wall, 500 lb. tire flip and bucket hoist. Jump down the embankment over the wall of FIRE and your last 1/8 mile is the thigh burning Anaconda as you serpentine up and over each side of the track with more round bales and crawl-under’s on each loop before you reach your final homestretch!
